Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister Mary Ignatius Rozario died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH, on May 17, 2026. She was born in 1930 in Hong Kong and entered the Eucharistic Ministers of St. Dominic, New Orleans, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace, in 1958.
She attended the Maryknoll Convent School and Business School in Hong Kong. Her life of service included ministry as a religious educator, activity coordinator, pastoral minister, sacristan and in ministry to shut-ins and the sick in Louisiana; parish outreach to the aged in Mississippi; and a census minister to 12 different parishes in Louisiana, California, Arizona, Mississippi, and Texas. She made the Columbus Motherhouse her home more than 15 years ago and devoted the remainder of her life to service, prayer and presence.
Sister’s Mass of Resurrection was held at the Columbus Motherhouse Chapel on May 27. Sr. Jeanne Moore, OP, shared the reflection about Sr. Mary Ignatius saying, “Coming from Hong Kong, she adopted a new homeland in Louisiana…prayer was always primary for her… and she was never unruffled when something important needed to be addressed.” Sr. Jeanne went on to say...."She didn't only invite the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind to come to the Eucharistic feast, she offered them transportation or brought the meal to their homes if they couldn't come. Sr. Ignatius, blest indeed are you because of their inability to repay you. I expect you've already been rewarded over and over and over again.”
She is survived by her sister, Teresa Gutierrez.
