Dominican Sister of Peace Maureen Flanagan died February 23, 2026, at Mohun Health Care Center in Columbus, Ohio. She was born in 1939 in Lowell, Massachusetts, and in 1957 entered the Dominican Sisters, St. Catharine, Kentucky, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace. She professed her final vows in 1965. 

Sr. Maureen ministered in education and served as food service supervisor at Sansbury Care Center, and in food service and teacher’s aide positions in various Massachusetts schools. She held certificates in food service and dietary management and believed her truest calling was in the culinary arts. Her accomplishments include the creation of a 25-foot-long cake that was part of a fund-raising effort for the veterans of Desert Storm. She also helped Bishop Frederick Campbell (Diocese of Columbus, OH) celebrate his 75th birthday with a beautiful cake topped with an edible miter and crozier.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edna Trott Flanagan, and her brother, Daniel G. Flanagan.  She is survived by her sister Joyce Lloyd, her brother William, and several nieces and nephews. 

A Vigil of Remembrance Service was held on March 9, and on March 10, Sr. Maureen’s brother-in-law, a Deacon in Chelmsford, MA, offered the reflection at her funeral liturgy at the Motherhouse Chapel. 

Deacon Barry Lloyd talked about Sr. Maureen as being very welcoming and said, “We lived in the presence of a woman who gave her heart and all of herself to God….and I know God welcomed her by saying ‘well done, my good and faithful servant.’” 

Sr. Maureen was interred at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Columbus, OH.
