The disciples asked Jesus, “Where do you live?” He said, “Come and you will see.” (John 1:38-39) Women interested in religious life often ask us, “What is life like as a Dominican Sister of Peace?” This question is best answered in the words of Jesus, “Come and you will see.”
During a “Come and See” discernment retreat, you come to our Motherhouse or convent to see what religious life is like as a Dominican Sister of Peace. We also offer virtual discernment retreats, usually in February or March. Whether you attend in-person or via Zoom, you will have the opportunity to meet and pray with our Sisters and other women who are discerning their call, learn about our mission, and have some of your vocation questions answered. These retreats focus on various themes – discernment, who the Dominicans are, daily life as a Sister, and the formation process. You will join with us to experience prayer, study, community and ministry, which are the four pillars, or graces, of Dominican spirituality.
Additionally, during the retreat, you will have a sister companion to speak with one-to-one for spiritual guidance and help in discerning your vocation in life. To get a glimpse of what to expect, click here to view highlights from a retreat we held at our Motherhouse in St. Catharine, Kentucky.
A retreatant shared that “The retreat to discern is a wonderful opportunity for women to understand the will of God in their lives and where God is calling them and who God asks them to be.”
These two blogs also tell you in the words of those who’ve attended a “Come and See” retreat what their experience was like.
